Ice Skate

Went ice-skating.
The last time I went ice-skating was in the 1990's. Don't exactly remember when.
I only stacked once, which was a relief. Was very paranoid about hurting my hands and legs.

Butterfries and Hurrycanes

Forgot to bring the camera...

Recorded drums on deep blue's version of Muse' "Butterflies and Hurricanes"
Alex Hodgo arranged it, and it's going to rock. We definitely need a modern song for deep blue (It's the 21st century orchestra ain't it?)

zoo

Went to the zoo to see Dan Parsons, Little Red Light, Jake Rush and Cindy and the croquet players reunion.
What's amazing about them is that all of the players (except Dave 'Irish' Joyce) went ot Hillbrook school. I bet the school suck at sports or something..

The after party was nice. Very low-key, low-lit, drinking stolen wine. Never expected to stay up until 3.00am on a Wednesday night.

Drumscene Live

This year's drumscene live was Horacio Hernandez, Billy Ward and Mike Mangini.
Didn't know what to expect with 3 very different drummers.
't was very impressive.

Meeting Billy was very cool. He invited me, Scottynos (fellow billyward forum member) and JD backstage and gave us his duets CD.
Also had a chat about his insane schedule and ofcourse, the korean drummer youtube clip... http://www.billyward.com/

Satch DB

The past 2 days has been unbelievable. It hasn't sunk in yet (will it ever?)

Friday Night:
Opened for Joe Satriani at the Tivoli. With Dejan Toracki (www.surfmusic.com.au)
Never been this freaked out from playing music. Playing in front of a packed guitar freaks at the tiv. The audience responded nicely, lots of cheering..
Seeing Satch's set from backstage was simply surreal.

Surprised that we were treated well. There were lots of beer in the dressing room.

And Satch was very, very (x 30times) nice.

Saturday Night:
Deep Blue played to a sold out audience at QPAC. Definitely the best show we have done. We ALMOST created a mosh apparently. That would be cool.
Here are some rehearsal photos taken by Clare Hawley (http://www.asparay.com)

Little Red Light

Didn't expect to spend to 2 Weekend night in a row at Tongue 'n Groove.
I went there this time to see my good friends, Little Red Light.

Amazing band, I can go and see them play every week. They are loud and funky, very danceable.

Forgot to take a 'full band' shot..

Dave 'Irish' Joyce (Bass/Lead Vox)

Zack Rush (Erectric Guitar)

Jono K. (Drooms)

Flip the Cup

Went to a 'flip the cup' event at the RE.

What is a 'flip the cup'?
Here's a copy/pasted explanation

How to play:

Aparatus: Table, cups and beer
The game is essentially a relay. Teams stand on opposite sides of the table, one person from each team directly opposite each other. Cups must be filled to the top. Failure to comply with this rule will result in verbal abuse. A neutral judge yells "go". The first player on each team chugs his beer as fast as possible. After finishing, the player sets his cup down on the edge of the table, with enough of the cup over the edge so that he can get a finger under it to flip it over. The cup must land standing before the next person on the team may begin chugging. The game is over when one team has chugged all their beers, and the last person has successfully flipped their cup. If you are too stupid to grasp this concept, please don't bother coming.

Obviously I can't play, but I find it entertaining to look on. The bouncers are cool with it too...

DB Blocking

The deep blue stage layout is going to change..
How? I guess you have to see the show ;) https://www.qtix.com.au/show/deep_blue_bf_08.aspx

To make sure the new layout doesn't mess up the choreography, we did some blocking rehearsal today..

Phill testing the new visual screen system. Which is operated by that keyboard... (and the computer ofcourse)

Asian Geek

I have dumped those sunglasses and opted for a more asian nerd look.

I should also stop playing drums and study classical piano.

A wha?

Jake Rush Matt Nelson

Saw 2 bands at Tongue 'n Groove.

Jake Rush has a talent being able to sing lead whilst keeping the rhythm going.

Loomer

Ran into LOOMER rehearsing at qut music block. They're my uni friends.
They're a 'shoegazer' band (Though I absolutely HATE labelling music and people) I should get into these type of music more, it rocks hard.

They totally rocked. I had to get involved so I joined playing on some crutches.
